Progress Pics

That's my pouty face.
I knew I really wouldn't see any change yet visibly, but here is another pic about two weeks since the last one. I'm still working on my food, slowly getting rid of more and more bad items. But what can I say, my willpower sucks when hubs is home, and I want to eat everything he eats.
So, that will change soon too.

Here is my tiny mighty potato for a FlexFriday.

Oh those bags under my eyes! I have been trying to work on getting more sleep since we rise around 3:30/4:00 am. I try to get in the shower around 8pm then sit and read for a bit.
I am going back to an old routine as well. I am implementing more variety in my books.
I swear my office has hundreds of books on the shelves, many I have not read.
I used to love to go to brick and mortar stores to buy loads of real books.
I really should do that again.
I love the Kindle, don't get me wrong.
And I do often order paperbacks of books that I really enjoyed and want a copy of...especially if the author is a real life friend, lol.
But back on subject, I decided to peruse my shelves for something different.
I pulled off The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama.

I'm only a few chapters in so far, but I am enjoying it.
I figured it would help me in my pursuit of calm and loving myself this year.
Plus, I enjoy reading many variations of genres.
Although I write mostly smut, I love reading everything...
Another goal of this year is to write a novel that is more horror/thriller inspired.

Happy Friday the 13th!

I don't care how old I am, Hot Topic has rad stuff.
A friend on Facebook alerted me to this new workout wear.
About ten to fifteen minutes later, I received an email from them spotlighting said outfits.
Yes, I get emails because I shop there. No shame in my clothing choice game.
The bonus?
If you ordered online, the pieces were an additional 20% off.
Plus I earned another $5 off coupon too.
It arrived today, and I am super stoked.

As you know it's Friday the 13th!!
Here is my traditional pic.

This was taken about two years ago, but it's only about a mile from our house.
So fitting...and it's abandoned and for sale still!

We've decided that we will do a movie marathon of said movies tonight.
I plan on making all sorts of snack and finger foods for the evening.
*cough* There will probably be a few adult beverages too.
I know, not on the plan, but sometimes it's okay, no?

I plan on making some variation of these little guys too.
Sweet Pepper Nachos.

I had not done it in a while, but I normally prepare my ground turkey with salsa for the week.
I happened to do that this week.
Instead of chips or tortillas, I half the sweet peppers and spoon the meat concoction in.
Then, I sprinkle maybe a Tablespoon of shredded cheese on top and pop them in the toaster over at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.
Very yummy!

Tonight I plan on taking all the bits of leftover chicken, steak and such and preparing an appetizer smorgasbord, topped off with the pear snack as a sweet treat for the night.
Sometimes, I like to just make the food fun and not a normal dinner night.

Have a great weekend folks!

and as usual you can find me on Instagram @jenniferlassalleedwards to see my pics scroll cross your screen, Ha!

A Gym Buddy Challenge & a New Snack I Die For

Today one of the guys at my gym and I were discussing the studies that show jumping actually helps joints, especially in those of us in the *cough* over 40 bracket, after he saw my miserable attempts at jumping rope. I can maybe do 30 seconds without stopping or getting tangled up, lol.
He issued me a challenge to work up to 10 minutes of nonstop jumping.
Challenge Accepted D!

I am also working on box jumps, starting on the bitty box.

2017 also the year of conquering exercises I despise!

Also, I have been playing with foods.
We had a bunch of pears, so I looked up different things to so with them.
I made up this graphic for the recipe that I've been loving at the moment.

Food, food, pictures

I won't lie. Weekends kill me.
I LOVE to cook, and weekends I tend to go overboard.
I will try to reign things in and find better options again.
However, Saturday morning, husband requested seafood crepes.
How could I say no?

A little bit ago, we bought a ten pound bag of potatoes because they were on sale for $1.
We should have known that we would never eat them all.
They were on the verge of sprouting, so I made oven chips for husband to bring to work with his lunches.
I may have eaten a few too.
Since I had some leftover cauliflower rice, I decided to make me a few tots - which I ate this morning with my egg.

I don't know if you've checked out the newest issue of Muscle & Fitness Hers.

I get mine on my Kindle.
Anyway, they have a great Clean Eating Guide this month with so many fun recommendations for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks.
I plan on trying a bunch of them out - and forcing husband to as well.
Hell, he asked me to start planning menus for the week again.

We've also signed up for a loca CSA, a beef one!
We've started with just the basic samplers to see how it goes.
Although, I did substitute out the yellow onion for apple.
I'm really excited to get our first deliveries.

Today, I will do the rest of our food prep, work, and write on some of my works in progress.

2017 seems to be going okay so far!

Full Disclosure: Starting Thick

Follow on Instagram jenniferlassalleedwards
because I will probably post more pics there than here, LOL.

Here we go!
This is where I am at the moment.
I thought I would give some background to new folks, and even a few things that I've not disclosed to regulars. I'm 43.
I have had hypothyroidism for god knows how long.
I have not taken medication for it in years.
I've undergone numerous female surgeries.
When I was in my early 20's, it was found that I had a uterine septum and endometriosis.
I had surgery to remove the wall in my uterus and remove the endometriosis.
Over many years and three miscarriages, I had surgeries to remove fibroids.
Then, it was discovered that on top of the fibroids, I also had adenomysosis.
I saw fertility doctors, endocrinologists, etc.
When push came to shove, my OB/GYN, sent me to a specialist who is known for his work in oncology, and specialized equipment to treat different disorders, and...hysterectomies.
The day that I met with this specialist, who is one of the top 10 in the nation, he came up from between my legs and said, "You're going in the hospital next week. All of this has to come out now."
I was scared. He hinted that cancer was not out of the realm of possibility.
He is a genius with the DaVinci robotics.

Unfortunately, he tried to remove everything through the vagina. No Go.
Tried the tiny incisions. Didn't work.
Finally, he had to just cut me open, and ran just below the line used for my previous fibroid surgeries.
He said my uterus was one of the largest he had ever seen.
One of my ovaries was also removed, and I was fortunate to be left with my other which means I did not suffer crazy hormonal changes.
I went into this surgery a few months after the last time I competed in 2014.
I was in good shape, so my recovery went well.
However, afterwards, I fought it for a long time pretending that I was okay with the whole situation, but I wasn't. It was hard for me to deal with the fact  that chances were completely gone, and that I was such a dud.
I've always used food to feed my emotions, and some booze too.
Now, a few years later, I have been dealing with it and have closure and feel reconciled with the whole situation.
Hey! Let me tell you how wonderful it is not to bleed for 12 to 20 days a week, or stand up in a restaurant and fee a gush where blood flows like a busted can through your clothes.
THAT is amazing. I do not miss any of that.

So here I am now.
I've not been the kindest to my mind or my body.
Will I compete again?
I won't say never, but probably not.
However, I still want to take care of myself, and have a banging body - even if I can't help my face.
I cannot deny how good I felt in the past, and I want to feel that once again.

There it is, all out on the table for you.
I'm starting thick, now let's just make it sexy.

Food and clothes.

So far, it's a good year.
I have been experimenting with food.
I have hopped on the bandwagon and am trying to make/use more cauliflower rice.

I've been enjoying it.
I had made cauliflower mashed potatoes for a while.
I don't know why I waited so long to do the rice - maybe it's because I don't have a food processor and choppity chop it with a knife.
I want to try the 'tots' recipe too from this Muscle & Fitness Cauliflower article!

Last night, I sauteed mushroom, garlic, parsley, basil, and spinach. Right before I added the cauliflower rice, I added olive oil and lemon juice.
Added the 'rice', and a little bit of shredded cheese, then tossed it about for a few minutes.
Even the husband liked it, so score!

Next, don't ask me why, but I was craving a sesame tofu.
I knew I wouldn't batter and deep fry anything, so I marinated some organic sprouted tofu in Lite Soy, Sriracha, Chili garlic paste, rice wine vinegar, sesame seeds, stevia, ground ginger.
Then seared it off in a nonstick pan with a little olive oil spray.

It looks bland. The looks are deceiving because I ate that whole bowl when I got home from the gym yesterday.
It hit the spot, LOL.

I have also been committed to reducing.
People husband works with think we are minimalists...Nothing is farther from the truth.
Although we reduced considerably when we moved, we still have far too many things, and tend to keep acquiring more.
I'm doing something that many of you probably already do.
I tend to wear things until they absolutely fall apart, especially items I love.
I will repair holes over and over.
Beginning this week, when I have worn something or taken out an item of clothing and notice little snags, holes, tears, I have been tossing them into the bin. Gosh knows, I have enough clothes (some never worn) to spare these threadbare ones.
Then, there are the jeans and such that are too big, or have shrunk in an odd way - those old t-shirts and sweatshirts that have creeped shorter, or the sleeves have shrunk.
I just need to let them go.
I am trying to avoid extra buying as well.
Let's see how long this lasts!

I have been committed to writing everyday.
I have a few works in progress, so if I write fifty words here, a hundred words there, I'm pretty stoked. Although, my goal is to have the sequel to my latest novel done before the Naughty in NOLA signing in May. Fingers crossed that the creative gods keep the juices flowing!

So, that's what's going on four days in.
Now, off to bring wood up to stock inside and closer to the house. Allegedly, snowmageddon is coming tonight. Got it going, and the house is warm. Now, to keep it that way!

And here we go!

Are you ready?
It's a new year, clean slate.
We are optimistic.
We are ready for change.
We are ready for new and exciting adventures.

My old goals still remain, red lips and building the ass.
That's just a continual one.
This year, though, I am focusing on me more than ever.
I am shaking off the wonder of what others may think about what I am doing, writing, pursuing, or accomplishing.
It's all about the pursuit of happiness for me this year.

I hope you are as well.
