One of my bestest girlfriends was nice enough to procure these two texts for me.
I'm eager to dive in and do some learning!

Getting Back to Normal

I won't lie.
I spent most of last week trying to get on the new nutrition plan my coach made up for me.
As I said before, we're now trying to build muscle since I'm pretty much lean now -
funny, I never thought I'd say that about myself.

However, there were many times during the week that I'd do this:

There were cocktails and a few splurges along the way.
So, today I'm trying to follow the new plan and routine.
Honestly though, it's a little freaky.
There's so much more food!  There's so much more variety of food.
There's treats involved!
There's also a ton less working out.
Or should I rather say, I only have to do cardio 3x a week for 20 minutes in my target heart rate zone?
Now, granted, I never had to do more than 30 minutes during my whole prep, but I was doing it 5 to 6 times a week.
It's just strange for me.
However, I completely trust my coach, her background and education and certifications in all of this.
She keeps it sane and not extreme or crazy.
I like that.
I like that a ton!
Plus, I learn from her.
That's a super nice perk too.

Just so you know.... I am a cookbook, recipe junkie.
Every time that I go to the library to exchange reading materials, I also pick up at least three cookbooks.
I LOVE food.  I also love finding really interesting recipes and trying to tweak them to fit into my lifestyle.
I think that I probably have mentioned this before, no?
Right now, I've got Gordon Ramsay's Just Desserts, Vegan Brunch and Volume 1 of Julia Child's French Cooking.
I'm also reading
It's really good, as she mixes her experiences of moving to France and recipes in the chapters.
I also get a little boost because my French comes back to me when she writes phrases in the language.
Now, I feel the urge to pull out some materials and brush up!

New Thoughts and goals...

My new goals now that I'm pretty much leaned out is grow!
Getting some muscles is the plan.
This means way more food, more variety of food, way less cardio and a full day of eating what I want!

But more importantly, I want to know the in's and out's.
I love the way my coach works.
Really, I never cut foods out during my prep - except the last 3 days.
It never got extreme or unhealthy.
When reading other competitors' sites/blogs, I cannot believe the restricted and crazy diets they do for 12 weeks or more.  Let's not even go into the crazy workouts like 2 a days (an hour of cardio in the morning, an hour of cardio at night, then weights squeezed in).
I just can't even imagine it.
Now, granted, I didn't "place well" in my first competition, but I thoroughly enjoyed my journey and knew going in what my weaknesses were.
I knew that I'd have to work on those for the future.
In fact, all the judges feedback so far has been exactly what I knew my weaknesses were.

Now, I want to learn more about nutrition, especially for athletes and body builders.
I want to know the science of what works for what.
I want to know more.
I'm very lucky that a friend of mine provided me with two pretty new science text books on the subject.  I like facts.  I like formulas and theories and actual labs and results.

My coach knows this and has begun to point me in the direction for more education on it.
She's giving me names, organizations, certification programs and such.

I'm hungry for knowledge.
I'm wanting to know more than the "typical" diets and "typical" proteins.
I'm curious about vegetarian, vegan and raw body builders.
I think if I can learn the macros and amounts and such, that playing with menus will become super fun and could have some different meals to introduce into competitors' diets.

I'm also toying with the ideas of giving fun classes to learn how to prepare the "typical" foods in fun new ways as to not be bored with the "typical" diets.
We've discussed doing something like that in the near future too.

In the meantime, I'm on the hunt for reliable and legitimate books on the subject -
not all the stupid fad diet books.

Well, I did it.

I did it.
I competed in my first Fitness competition.
It was a super long day - mainly because there were over 100 Bikini Competitors!!
Hahaha, soon they'll need their own night of judging!

Anyway, there were only 4 of us Fitness gals.
I placed 4th out of 4.
I expected it, but you know, it's still a teeny bit deflating.
But those gals did wonderful.
Here's a few photos.

I will let you in on a little secret.
During the morning routine/judging my music skipped like crazy.
I got a little flustered, but did my whole routine anyway.
Don't ask me how it happened, but I broke my big toe.
I think with all the adrenaline, I didn't even notice until I went to put on my heels for the 1st Posing round of judging and was all "Oooooowwwwiiiie!"
This just proves that I'm a complete and utter klutz!

Thankfully, I had extra copies of my music and they gladly exchanged out my cd.
So for the night time show, that was all good!

Now, down to the nitty gritty.
I let this all get in my head.
I thought that I wouldn't, but I did.
I began to make the "placing" a part of my self-worth.
It wasn't for very long, just one day, but I got a little cray-cray.
You see because I could not stand outside of myself and be objective.
I've only gotten one judge's feedback so far.
In all honesty, what he said was true.
But I got my panties in a bunch for about an hour and was all defensive - in my living room mind you.
Then, I realized, "I have no skills in being given constructive criticism."
It's a fault that I have to work on, especially if I want to do this more.
I have to step out of my own psyche and be honest with myself.
That's something that's very hard to do.
Lots of folks tell me that they can do that.
Yeah,  I thought that I could as well ~
apparently, not so much, hahaha.

I think this part is the hardest part of competing, for me.
Of course in my head, I think this and see this:

This has all been a learning experience for me.
I'm sure that it will definitely continue to be one.
I really had no clue what I was going into or what to expect.
Now, I have a slightly better understanding.
I just have to grow with it and not let any of it stunt my evolution.
Plus, when I'm old and gray, I'll have some badass pictures to show people when I'm in the home!

Hmmmmmmm, BAM

You know, I've spent countless years scrutinizing photos and magazines of women's bodies.
Hell, I scrutinize the buff babes at the gym.
I am in awe,
a little jealous even.
I believe it's become even worse during this time of competition prep.
I compare how my abs are not as defined as theirs.
I long to have arms that look flexed even when relaxed.
I want a ba-dunk-a-dunk that is round and perky and firm...
like that gal over there.

Then, today as I was prepping even more 99% Fat Free ground turkey with less than 70 mg of sodium per 4oz, throwing in containers with 2 boiled egg whites and scurrying all around the kitchen, something hit me.

I will never be happy with the progress that I've made if I keep trying to compare me with them.
It stops now.
I'm me.
I'll be the way that I want and not try to conform or subscribe to what anyone else wants me to be.
I'll be the best me that I can be.
I've come a long way baby.
So this Saturday is the big day.
Screw all the pressures of "placing."
I just want to have fun and be in the moment and enjoy this experience.

I popped out my mirror, threw it in the kitchen and snapped a few pics.

Smile, it's all good!

I'm proud even if it's not magazine material. =-p

6 more days

Oh yes,
a bag of each has been procured and both are waiting patiently in the pantry for their demise this weekend!

Holy Jelly Beans!!! Tomorrow begins my Peak Week

This so rocks!! Tomorrow starts my Peak Week. Still only 30 minutes of cardio a day, in a lower Target Heart Rate Zone even, weights - but less (she made me a super awesome plan),& of course, still practice my routine. And I'm only really changing my diet slightly for 3 days next week!  Besides adding more & more asparagus.  I'm going to smell lovely everytime that I go pee, lol  Friday rest & reload (among 1st tannings, competitor check-in and meeting). I feel so lucky in what I've been doing and that my coach has made me go slow & steady. So freaking exciting!!! Plus, one of my besties is flying in next Friday for the weekend too!! WooHoo!!
I honestly never thought that I would be doing this or get here.
I'm honestly sort of amazed, lol.
Next week, another body fat check, weigh in, dress rehearsal of routine and posing.  We'll see how I'm doing and see if any tweaks to diet need to be made.  Of course, the whole "dehydrating" thing sort of freaks me out.  But I know if I feel dizzy, sick, nauseous, etc., drink some!  Plus, we don't start that until closer to the show date at the end of the week.
Ok, nerves are a little up, but it will be okay.
I am approaching this as a conservative burlesque show - even though during the posing, I have probably worn more on stage in burlesque!  Even if I mess up my routine, the judges and audience don't know that.  I will just keep on and make sure to get my strength and flexibility moves in and throw out dance choreography if need be.
Today's stats
99.5 lbs and down to 15.21% body fat.
I don't think that I weighed this little since the 90's!!

Tuesday, 3 April 2012

What?! 10 Days....

Yesterday was body stat day!
Down 1/2 a pound, so now I'm 101.5 pounds.
Body fat finally dropped some!
Thank goodness!!
Down 0.72% to 15.69%.
FINALLY made it into the 15% range!

I go back Friday.
We'll check my body stats again, and plan my nutrition to begin Saturday.
We'll do depleting (then a quick reload) those last 7 days.

Should be interesting.

Here's some quickies from this morning.
I realize that I'm so white that I glow, even after months of using the Jergens Daily Glow, lol.
Hoping that in the next 10 days, and with the tan next Friday and Saturday morning, that things will look more defined.
