Weekend & griping & explanation of insanity - feel free to pass on by

Well, as you saw, I did the purple. It seemed that I have a ton of time just sitting this weekend because work decided to pile it on and send some FedEx's on top of it. Since I had no choice but to be butt-planted in front of the computer, I decided "Why not?"

On the other hand, I knew this would happen. You see, for two months, every week I have been reminding them that I am beginning school. Even though I am taking online classes for the next two months, I have told them that I would be unavailable during the day for two days so that I can make sure that I give myself adequate time for the school work and online tests. It has been a number of years since I have been in school. I just want to make sure that I get into the swing of things with as little stress as possible until I get used to it again. When I gave them a reminder, once again on Friday, they acted as if they had never heard it. =( I have to check with the department over at the respiratory school, but I am pretty sure, that once I am there, I go five days a week from 7:30am-3:00pm. That will definitely make me unavailable to work. Hence, why I am applying for student aid (hello once again, dear old fafsa and sallie mae). I think they will drop a load when I tell them. You see, to add to the story, one of their useless drafters has decided to retire. Not that it's a big loss because I am told he just sleeps in the chair most of the day or sits on the phone or plays games. On the other hand, they may not be hiring another person to replace him. I gently suggested that they should, as they never know how long I will be available for their every whim. I plan on giving them notice of my plans as soon as I find out the schedule for August. I have even gone so far as to tell them that I am pretty sure that will be my schedule in August, and I will not be available for them. It seems to go in one ear and out of the other, as they continue to tell me of awarded projects that are weeks work of drawing that will be sent to me. ~sigh~

So you see, this is one of my reasons for doing all of the craziness that I have been. It is quite a stress relief, gives me much pleasure and in August I will have to revert to being somewhat normal again.

Citrus Head

This is me after the first round of bleaching, and my makeup is after a long day. See, citrus-y. =)

Lemon Chiffon? =D

I did one round of bleach last night. I am now the proud owner of a lemon chiffon-y (a very pale yellow) colored hair. Am I weird because I kind of like it?! I want to enjoy this weird color a few days before I apply the purple. I forgot how fun it was to play with hair color!

That's what I did yesterday when I got finished with work for the day. It kind of helped to relieve my work related stress/anxiety. I guess that was because I couldn't help but smile afterward. This morning I curled it and put on makeup and I look like a warped Jean Harlow, haha. I even put on one of my cute vintage looking sundresses. So easily amused. Now, off to do mountains and mountains of drawings and even more when FedEx brings me more later.

Holiday? What holiday?

Am I the only one who has to work Memorial Day? The office that I work for hardly ever, ever closes. Though I am contracted and work from home, it seems that I tend to get the brunt of the work not being done in the office. I am crossing my fingers that not much will come my way and that I can at least enjoy part of the day with no deadlines looming.

I keep hoping to find the time to begin Butterick 6582 '60 retro dress view B. I have some really cute black sugar skull cotton that I would love to make into that dress. I do need to pick up a zipper though. Hmmmm, JoAnn's shopping? I love that store. Of course, it is one of the only stores near me with fabric, patterns and such (besides WalMart). I was really sad when they closed up Hancock's Fabrics. It was only 2 miles away. =\

Dress 1

So my camera skills are not the greatest, and it still has to be hemmed, but you get the idea. It is not quite true because it is on my dress form and not me. It will flare out a little more because momma's got hips...and boobs. It was the Easy stitch 'n save M5292 version C. I used some scrap material that I had on hand to see if I could even do it.

On a side note, I have the bleach kit and purple dye. As soon as I get the courage, I am dying my hair easter egg purple because I have wanted to for years.

Gogol Bordello is at the Fox Theater next Thursday night, but the show is sold out. However, they are playing at the Mile High Music Festival in July, woohoo!
See, this is all because I pay absolutely no attention to whose touring or playing anywhere. Too late on everything!
I have to start perusing tour dates of bands that I like, especially because I plan on have more free dates on weekends and such.

I also really want to go to Rue Morgues Festival of Fear in August. The drawback? It's in Canada at the end of August. Canada, respiratory program begins in August. I have to wait and see what my schedule is like since the festival is a long weekend. I mean, come on, Bruce Cambell is the guest of honor! Plus so many other campy horror stars will be attending, how can you pass that up?

Zombie Tip

Your passion shouldn't be a fashion.

If you're just "following the horde" because it's "what everybody is doing," you might seriously want to stop to evaluate your motivations. If you only do what's popular and follow from trend to trend, you'll be left never knowing who you actually are as a person. Who the "real you" is.

(If, however, the horde is comprised of zombies, and you are also a zombie, then by all means proceed.)

Hahahahaha! Love it! See easily I am amused?!

From The Zen of Zombies

Creative outlet, finally

It was so nice to have a day off. I actually was able to accomplish so much, including sewing, finally. I am almost finished dress C (top right view). It is an Easy stitch 'n save McCall's M5292 pattern. I just have to put the zipper in and finish off the hem. I started by cutting out the paper pattern pieces around 3pm, lost track of time and before I knew it, 6:30 rolled around. Wow. The lining does not look that great, but who sees the lining anyway? That was my first attempt at making and putting in lining, so now I know how to tackle it. Next pattern should come out looking even better on the inside. =) I really have to learn to use one of our digital cameras and learn how to download to the computer.

Unfortunately, today work begins again. Boo. Hopefully, they will close up for Memorial Day, and I will get another long weekend. However, I am not holding my breath. They hardly ever close. I just keep telling myself, "Sooner than later you will be able to change careers. Focus on the future and it will happen." Right?

P.S. If you like silly cheesy things, The Zen of Zombie is worth checking out from your library. Silly, silly, silly. Just what one needs for a quick giggle and grin.

What I'm reading.

Hehe, it is quite a quick, fun read. Silly illustrations abound. Truly, zombies have some traits that could be followed in life and the pursuit of zen =p

Accentuate the positive

I know that I always say that I need to make positive changes, and somehow, I always revert back to dwelling on negatives. Someone must have been reading my thoughts because one of my magazines came in the mail yesterday, and it deals with trying to find positives. There are all sorts of tips on reframing situations in your head, trying to not dwell on negatives and bad situations. Reading through is making things click in my head. My life is filled with much more positive than negatives. Even though I know this, I tend not to realize it often. I have the bad habit of taking a bad situation, thought, occurrence and replaying it over and over and over until I drown myself in negatives and drown in stress, sad and bad. Shame on me. I am really going to make a concerted effort to do little things to get over those humps. It is what I want life to be; I create my own happiness and joy type scenario, ya know?

On a side note, cheese makes me feel good. The silliest things make me happy. I should not be ashamed of that. Yesterday, for the b-day, Sam took me to JoAnn's. I got some cute clearance Halloween fabrics. Then, he took me to Hot Topic. Yes, I am guilty because they have really cute tees and, of course, "Nightmare Before Christmas". Sam found the greatest peep toe shoes and dragged me to go look at them. They are lime green, monster peep toes! They have teeth across the toes, a creepy eyeball, black heels and a black bow on the back. Love. Yep, I got them and will parade them around gleefully. I got a HorrorPops tee too, because it has the Bride of Frankenstein type cartoon girl on it. Besides, I just like the HorrorPops. =p
Yes, I am 36, and I adore adolescent fashions.

We did go see the new "Star Trek" movie. I must admit that I was not expecting much. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was! He also suprised me with a dvd of the History Channel's show on voodoo. My geeky side exposed.

Sam got me a shitake mushroom gift box. There are cute boxes of dried mushrooms, snacks made with the mushrooms, mixes for mushroom recipes. The best part? It has a pre-fungi-ed log! Yes, it is a blooming log! I get to grow my own shrooms, yaaay! Is it weird that I am so excited by this?
I just started seeding my veggie garden too. Oh if only we had a longer growing period. I wish that I were knowledgeable enough and handy enough to create a super greenhouse for the winter months.
Guess who is going to have fresh mushrooms? ~snoopy dance~

I think that is what I am meant to be. My high-strung, stressing self is meant to spectate, enjoy and relax. =)
See, I always do sweat the small stuff, too much. I never learned how to be that laid back personality. I want to though. Living on 2 to 3 hours of sleep everyday because I am so stressed out and worrying about everything does not help. Yep, I need to learn to relax and enjoy.I think that I may give it a go.

Thursday, 7 May 2009

I love the MTV show "Center Stage", and I am looking on with a little trepidation to the remake "Fame" movie. You see, since I was in 4th grade, I really believed that I would eventually go to Julliard. I began with guitar lessons in 4th grade and took them until I was in 10th or 11th grade. I really thought that I would be a great guitarist, classical, modern. Yeah, me with my short, tiny fingers that could barely reach across the neck. I practiced endlessly. Then, I realized I would never be that talented person. I think that I'm tone deaf did not help my situation.=D

What has happened to women like her? Today is missing so much. I believe we have all become so self-absorbed in our own little worlds that we have lost ambition, passion. It seems to me that there are no true rebels, artists, radicals, spontaneous free-thinkers today. Perhaps I am wrong, and I am turning a blind eye because I, too, have become too self-absorbed.

I get obsessed with true stories quite easily. Right now, I am obsessed with the stories of the Bouvier-Beales. I am sure that I will obtain the original documentary and get a biography or two to read. Then again, I get intrigued and pulled into the lives of people who quarantine themselves from all reality, like Into the Wild. You know, being able to shun soceity and live life in an eccentric and free way. This is something that I crave. I always dream that one day I will obtain the courage to break free. Haha, funny that breaking free to me means breaking away and secluding oneself away from "normalcy". I was born with a wanderlust that I have yet to quench and a need to express my peculiar proclivities that I cannot seem to completely exhibit.

random goings on

I just got done weed-eating and cutting my (wet) grass with my lawn mower, like that. ~points to pic~ We have an old school retro mower. I actually really like it. We've used it the past two years, and this is our third season using it. I also sprinkled some indigenous wild flower seeds in areas that hold the moisture a little better in this super dry climate. I figured we are supposed to get rain the next couple of days and maybe my $1 bag of seeds will take without trying, haha.

I am planning on going to go to JoAnn's to pick up some zippers and notions needed for a few of the outfits that I want to make. I will probably also peruse their sale fabrics and remnants for any good deals. At some point before next weekend, I have to hit the liquor store and restock our brew and wine supplies. It has been quite empty for a few weeks. I would like to have it filled up when S gets home next weekend.

Other than mountains of work, right now I am working on 6400 feet of existing street, canal, utility, sewer lift station, plan/profile sheets, I have taken on house projects. I recaulked the tub. I have also begun sanding my kitchen cabinet doors to prepare them for refinishing. That will take me forever with everything else going on, I'm sure.
