Happy Halloween

I'm thinking of maybe dressing up tonight as Mother Nature. I was also thinking of carrying a present so that I could offer to give ladies their monthly present. Yes, I'm twisted. Otherwise, I am now dressed in my long sleeved tee with glow in the dark ribs and arm bones. =) We did finish making up all of our goodie bags last night. We made about twenty less than last year. Last year we made up sixty and had nineteen left over. So, this year we made up forty-one, heh.

Oh well, it's off to work now. Well, off to fix my cup of coffee and begin sitting here and actually doing work.

And, I completely did not stick to my no libations during the week. S bought some Blue Moon Belgian White and oranges. How could I possibly say no?

I jumped on the scale today, big mistake. Wowza. Vacation did some damage to my figure. I also noticed it in the pictures. Chubbiness over the jean tops, the dreaded ahhhhh muffin top! So, I made up my mind and walked up to the grocery to buy good things. Heck, we needed food anyway. I bought lots of fresh fruit and veggies, some whole grain pasta, oats, rice, bread, and organic chicken for the man. I am going to plan out the meals and stick to it. No more boozing on week nights for a while either. (Did I mention that we did cocktails and left over Chinese last night while watching the episodes of True Blood that we missed?)

I want to look decent when I go down to visit home in three weeks. Plus, I have been asked to perform in two big holiday shows in December and January. Being half naked for the big shows gives me some incentive. I want to look as toned as those other girls do. I am going to pull out my Oxygen magazines and go through the weight training routines, the nutrition plans, look at those chicks and get myself motivated. At least I walked about 1.25 miles so far today. I didn't buy dumb bells for no reason. And one of my magazines just had a whole section of dance exercises with a resistance band. I actually tore that out and put it in the neglected recipe and exercise folder. I have one of those resistance bands tucked away. What about all of those pilates, yoga, aerobic, belly dance and sculpting videos that I have bought over the years and never put in the dvd player? Maybe I will dust those off too.

I have given up on going to the gym. I can do more at home. I can get a curl bar and more weight plates. The dvd's that I have are more varied than the classes they offer. Their classes are few and the times suck. I just have to create the plan and stick to it. I was doing awesome a few months ago, right before I found out that I was pregnant. Then, with all of that uncertainty and the miscarriage things just went kaplooey. All thought of any health down the drain. I should really get myself healthy and fit if I want to try for that. When I came back from vacation I saw a girl that I know from the net for years just found out she was preggers. I am so happy for her, but I became overwhelmed with sadness and major blues yesterday. I thought I had passed that. Oh wait, going off on a tangent, let me get back on track. To tie in, when I get blue, I eat and grab cocktails. Not the healthy solution, but it's what I know. I know if I get back into exercising it will help with moods and periods too! Lighter, happier the commercial.

So, I guess there will be lots of recipe posts and boring exercise things that I discover to come.

I broke down and bought two of these Iris Impressions wrap skirts. You can wear them over 100 different ways, don't ya know. I had seen them earlier in the year. In Vegas, though, I could haggle the price with one of the many kiosks selling them. =p

This is something that I never knew happened in races. I mean, I know if you are seriously in it you have to make times in other races and have that chip thingy, but I never knew they separated races in this manner. I always just assumed the fastest person won.

Friends, Food, Fun

My friends are so amazing. There are two of us that had moved away. We all haven't been together at one time in well over a year. The girls in New Orleans got together and sent Southwest giftcards for a flight back home to visit. We're planning on next month. I'm excited. I miss the Council so much. YaaY!! Coffee and food and fun =)

I finally heard from S a few minutes ago. He's in Guam. He met up with a guy he went to the academy with and he showed him around. He got to see the end of a fire twirling show, and women in coconut bras. I'm jealous. He had to get ready to go and catch his flight back to Hawaii and then from Hawaii home. He should be back in the morning, that is as long as he doesn't get delayed two days again in Hawaii!

I made a beer bread recipe last night. Super easy, and tasty, just on the sweeter side. I had to stop myself from munching on it last night after it was cool enough to cut!

  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can beer
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.

Beat the beer and brown sugar together in a mixing bowl to make a smooth mixture. Add the baking powder, and gradually stir in the flour to make a smooth dough. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes.

Remove the bread from the oven, and pour melted butter over the top. Return to the oven, and continue baking until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, about 10 minutes more. Cool in pan 5 minutes before turning out onto a rack. Cool bread 10 minutes more before slicing.

Plane panics...

So, S was laid over in Hawaii yesterday on his way to Micronesia. When they tried to leave Hawaii, the plane had trouble midair and they had to turn around and go back to Hawaii. He spent the night in Hawaii. Today, they have tried to take off twice and had to turn back to Hawaii. I don't remember which commercial airline it is because I did not have to drop him off at the airport. Me, I think it's time to end this trip and head back home. His return has already been delayed two days. Our trip is next week. It would only figure that he continually be delayed and screw up the trip, as it always seems to do. Sometimes his job really, really sucks. I just don't want to hear about any planes going down between Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia.

I am feeling a little better. I went to the photo shoot tonight with Miss Kitty Mae Cupcake and her husband. She's making these fabulous hats now! It was more 20s inspired and my hair decided to cooperate and I was able to pull off a somewhat Clara Bow. Hopefully, it photographed well. They were so fun to work with. Getting myself all dolled up made me feel like taking a little more care and effort. I cannot wait to see the pictures, maybe. Sometimes I photograph ok, other times bleh. I have confidence that they came out cute. =)
I may do some pinup style photos with him as well....possibly zombie pinup ~score~

The State of LPM

I have become one of those women, the ones you see on What Not to Wear. I swore that just because I work from home that I would not do it, but I have. I crawl out of bed when the phone starts ringing, grab a cup of joe, and shuffle down to my office. I stay in my pajamas all day. I don't fix my hair, just clumsily tie it back in a pony tail. Heck I have even quit wearing a bra. I think about going outside to walk the dogs or walk to the store, but that would require actually putting on real clothes and putting forth a slight bit of effort. Why worry after all? No one even sees me and the FedEx guy just shoves my envelopes between the screen door and real door so I don't even have to worry about him anymore.

I sit my doughy butt behind this computer most of the day. When I know the office there is closed, I shuffle on around to do housework. I try to jump in the shower before S gets home and put on a new pair of pj's. I have lost interest in almost everything because I don't want to be bothered.

In a few months perhaps I'll require an intervention. However, I don't expect Stacey or Clinton to show up at my door or Nick Arogio to do my hair. Ok, Nick would be my wet dream for hair. I guess I will consider it rock bottom when you see me out of my house in my pj's. If you do witness it, feel free to stop me and smack some sense back into me.

Vegan Veggie Potpie

That's what I'm making right now. I have the bottom crust in the oven right now. It smells really good so far. I stuck the top in the freezer for the moment. I basically took

2 cups +\- all purpose organic unbleached flour
mixed in about a teaspoon and a half of each thyme, basil and dry mustard powder and a dash of salt and pepper
2/3 cup oil ( I mixed olive oil and canola, about 1/2 & 1/2)
just a tad of water

mixed it all up, cut it in half for a top and bottom


I took about a quarter of a pack of soft organic tofu and about a tablespoon of spicy brown mustard and some water and blended it until it was about like ricotta cheese.
I mixed that with a combo of chopped green zucchini, mushrooms, onions, garlic, corn and a teeny bit of jalapeno.
Then sprinkled in some salt, pepper, cajun spice, dry mustard and mixed.

I tasted it raw and it was good.

I plan on putting in the bottom crust then covering with more dough and baking it some more.

It's made a decent size pan so I'll get a few meals out of it! Plus, it's chilly and I felt the need to bake some warm comfort food. =)

Definitely needs more filling. Though it filled up a bowl before hand, it shrunk inside of the two layers of crust. I think using the whole pack of tofu and addign more of everything would make it killer. I may make more filling tomorrow, cook it separately and just mix it in with my bowl of goodness as I eat it. On the bright side, the crusts were definitely rich and pastry like.

Holy Psycho Mess

I cannot believe today. The phones have been ringing off of the hook, home one and cell. Of course because I had to bring Sam to the airport today, work is just going crazy with needing things and calling. If the phone is not ringing, they are emailing jobs. May I please pull my hair out now? Not to mention my knuckles are just aching with pain. Too much, I tell you! My house is pure 'd wreck.

Then, my door bell was ringing and the crazy, fear-aggression dog was going balistic. The neighbor came with a load of mail the mailperson put in their box. I'm glad she did because it was checks and medical bills. I was holding the dog by the collar because I was caught off guard and unable to go into the whole training method of how she is supposed to act when someone comes to the door simply because no one ever comes to our door. The woman made a comment about it. I felt like telling her that her freaking dog chased me down the street trying to attack me. At least my dog is away from people when they come over, and when she is out of the house (on a leash) she is totally fine. It's a territorial behavioral fear thing which we are getting training for. They let their big dog run around the neighborhood unattended terrorizing people. ~Sigh~

I'm sort of glad that my hat photo shoot was put off until tomorrow evening. I could not imagine getting myself all dolled up today. I'm kaput.

Sam is gone until the weekend so I should have expected life to just go insane since I have to handle everything on my own. Calgon take me away... Thank heavens we are off to Vegas at the end of next week.

On a good note though, I got the coolest coffee mug from Barnes & Noble last night. It's big, black with bones and cartoon skulls all over it. There's even a little skull & cross bones on the white inside. Cute!! They also had an orange one with cute bats all over it. =)

Hair is evil. I am tempted to take Sam's clippers and do a shave job on my head this week. I keep telling myself that I'll be sorry if I do...

Food Whore

Is it bad that at 7:00am I am looking up recipes and want to make those? *points up*
I'll put the recipe after. I want them, for breakfast. Unfortunately, I have no mushrooms or kalamata olives.
I also found a tempting looking recipe for stuffed mini pumpkins. ~drool~
Tomato & Olive Stuffed Portobello Mushroom Caps

2/3 cup chopped plum tomatoes
1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup chopped Kalamata olives
1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1/2 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary or 1/8 teaspoon dried
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
4 portobello mushroom caps, 5 inches wide
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons reduced-sodium soy sauce

1. Combine tomatoes, cheese, olives, garlic, 1 teaspoon oil, rosemary and pepper in a small bowl.
2. Preheat grill to medium.
3. Discard mushroom stems. Remove brown gills from the undersides of the caps using a spoon; discard gills. Mix the remaining 1 teaspoon oil, lemon juice and soy sauce in a small bowl. Brush the mixture over both sides of the caps.
4. Oil a grill rack (see Tip, below). Place the caps on the rack, stem sides down, cover and grill until soft, about 5 minutes per side. Remove from the grill and fill with the tomato mixture. Return to the grill, cover, and cook until the cheese is melted, about 3 minutes more.

This is what I'm reading at the moment. I'm only within the first twenty pages or so, but it's not bad. Background on history of areas, most of which I already knew, but also some interesting info there as well. Hopefully, I will finish it this weekend as it's not that long.
And besides work, there is not very much going on besides chores and cooking and trying to get in some sewing and crafting. Sam goes on a business trip next week. Then during the next week, well we're off on vacation! Whoopee!

We are taking a mini vacation, long weekend, relaxation, don't worry be happy, no work, no faxes, no FedEx, no phone!! We haven't been to Vegas since we got married in 2004! At the end of this month, we're off! I cannot wait. I am going to start counting down the days! I don't even care that I really have no clothes to wear. I'll just wear what I've had forever because Vegas hasn't seen it, haha.

Pretty in what?

So, I'm pulling an Andie. I had a bag of clothes to give away to Goodwill, Paralyzed Vets, whoever called first. Then, I thought about that movie and thought, why can't I pull apart clothes and make them into other things? It's harder than I thought it would be. Not only do I keep scaring the crap out of myself every time I come downstairs, but I keep redraping and redraping the fabric trying to figure out how the fabric speaks to me dahlin'. The scaring myself is because the dressform was in the back room with all of my burlesque costumes. I moved it into my office where my sewing machine is. Every time I come downstairs, I think there's someone there and I jump. So how did Miss Molly Ringwald's character create these uber cool creations? I'm convinced she cheated and had help. I do wish that I had taken a picture of the dress before I ripped every seam out of it and started draping and cutting and pinning. Should be interesting, and at least I am using materials that I was getting rid of anyway. Perhaps by some miracle, I'll create something cool and maybe get the hang of making things without patterns and just brilliant ideas?

Bento Lunches!

I have been obsessed with looking at the bentolunch community over at LJ. It amazes me what people can do with food, especially those that have little kidlings. I mean, what little kid wouldn't want to open a lunch with cute critters, cartoon characters and such? I may try to make some onigri and cut some shapes out of my tomatoes and cucumbers. Why not have fun with food?

I think I am going to try this recipe for some curried zucchini soup since I still have a bunch of zucchini growing in the garden. I have a million tons of cherry tomatoes too. I made one batch of red sauce in the crock pot and froze it. Maybe I'll make some more or guazpacho or something.

I made the soup and substituted plain water for the chicken stock. I also used a little more zucchini just because I have so much. I have to say, it's pretty darn tasty!

attacks suck.
This morning has been riddled with them. Unfortunately, I'm so bogged down with rush work that I can't go for a quick, hard run/walk which would help alleviate some of it. ~sniff~ I think the work (amount and reasons for me receiving started work from other people) is part of the reason that I'm afflicted today.
